Iranian experts to review “Dead Poets Society”

TEHRAN – American filmmaker Peter Weir’s widely-acclaimed drama “Dead Poets Society” will be reviewed by a panel experts after a screening at Tehran’s Eyvan-e Shams Hall next Sunday.
The panel is composed of film critic Mohammad Naseri and psychologist Marjan Soltanipanah.

“Dead Poets Society”, for which the screenplay was written by Tom Schulman, gained the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Weir received a nomination for Best Director and the film itself was nominated for Best Picture of the year.


Media delegation from Iran visiting China

TEHRAN – An Iranian media delegation is visiting China by invitation of the All-China Journalists Association (ACJA), the Persian service of IRNA reported on Tuesday.

The journalists, who write for Persian dailies Hamshahri and Qanun, the Fars News Agency and the Iranian News Agency, met with Deng Li, the director of the Department of Western Asia and North Africa Affairs at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.


“The Birds” coming to Iranian bookstores

TEHRAN – British writer Daphne du Maurier’s novelette “The Birds”, which was the source of inspiration for Alfred Hitchcock’s movie of the same name, has recently been published in Persian by Behnegar publications.

The story set shortly after the end of World War II is about a farmhand, his family and his community that are attacked by flocks of birds and seabirds in kamikaze-like missions.

The book, rendered into Persian by Ali Masudinia, originally came out in du Maurier’s 1952 collection “The Apple Tree”. In 2009, Irish playwright Conor McPherson adapted the story for the stage at Dublin’s Gate Theatre.


Posters, photos on science, technology on display at IAF

TEHRAN – An exhibition of photos and graphic designs on science and technology by a number of Iranian artists opened at the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) in Tehran on Tuesday.

The exhibition has been arranged by the organizers of the Mustafa Prize, which is presented to those active in science and technology.

The exhibition will be running until next Monday at the Forum located on Musavi St., off Taleqani Ave.
